Thanks for the info, but I'll still buy the game for myself a few moths after the release.  I'll also buy a new graphic card in 2012, so I'm sure I'll have the best bang for the buck with this game.

To be able to play Battlefield 3, it will be necessary to instal the Origin client and to let go. This is valid not only for the download version anyway bought about Origin, but also for the copies offered in the store of Battlefield 3. This reports the fan site bf3blog.com with reference to a Tweet about Daniel Matros of the developer DICE.

Unclearly remains up to now only whether Origin is also necessary for Battelfield bought by other download suppliers 3-plays compelling. On Steam it is not at all only offered of the Militär-Shooter meanwhile.

As bfblog.com reported, the Origin client posed 3 still problems during the already concluded laboratory test of Battlefield. Thus the actually programme running only in the background should have substantially CPU achievement abgezwackt. However, this should still change up to the ready sales version.

Battlefield 3 appears on the 27th of October for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. On gamescom one can lead Battlefield 3, moreover, in the EA state himself. More to Origin you read in our Special to download platform EAs.

The A10 is nice :D but why that noobish cobra instead of the apache? :X

don't reload anything... simply built an image with your drive, and load it to a new drive.  You can use this free software... oups thought I had the link at work :-[

Will be cool if we can laser lock a target for air strike ;D

So,
they found a possible way for ground troops to communicate with air forces.  That will be interesting to see if it works... or it might be exactly like bf2 with its independent pilots playing solo for their points.

If you're on teamspeak with the pilots it changes everything.
You can call in a airstrike whenever you want to ;)

Who Battlefield: Bath Company 2 on the PC has played, already knows the Serverpolitk of EA and DICE and experiences with Battlefield 3, therefore, no surprise. Instead of offering freely Dedicated of server and leaving it to the players, putting on privately the servers, the Battlefield become 3 servers of select partners gehostet. Now in a forum contribution of the English EA web page Mikael Kalms of DICE to the contact with Dedicated to servers expressed himself in Battlefield 3.

Thus the Ranked and Unranked server are pursued by a row of select server suppliers. Private Dedicated to servers aren't permitted. Besides, there will be not in every country server, but where there are 3 players enough Battlefield. A list of the servers is published to the release of the play in October, 2011. The server operators are paid like with bath Company 2 by the players who also take over the administrative duties and determine therefore, among the rest, about the map choice and other play aspects. On Unranked to servers the administrators should be able to have even more influence on the play.

» PC version in the preview: Only really with 64 players

As an Anti Cheat system it is officially supported PunkBuster. Moreover, the tools become some Anti-Cheat-Communities support, even if not officially. PBBans, GGC-Stream and PunksBusted count to it.

No free name choice

As Community manager Daniel Matros informs in a Twitter contribution, PC players of Battlefield 3 her pitching names can't adapt in the play individually. Instead, the play takes over the account name from the on-line platform Origin which is assumed compelling to the play by Battlefield 3. As with the Xbox 360 player name and account name are identical.

Don't think this has been posted before...

Some trivia 'bout bf3, servers and stuff.

Quote:
Aug 25.
DICE's Michael Kalm wrote a post about how the servers will work in Battlefield 3. If you are familiar with BC2 servers it will be recognizable.

Ranked / unranked server vendors are, like at BC2, the only way to run a server. In unranked mode admins can decide what weapons are allowed, a feature that speaks to the contest-embossed team out there. Another feature that should be fixed is Punk Buster's ability to make player screenshots, something that did not work optimally in BC2.
A list of server vendors should show up within a month's time.

He can not give answers to the question about spectator mode, battle recorder, etc., but hope to have clarification on that issue when the open beta starts.

RSPs
The game server machines themselves will be run by a number of Ranked Server Provider (RSP) companies. We do not allow other companies to run game servers, or for other people to run game servers from home.

We try to strike a balance where there are game servers available across the globe, while still keeping the number of RSPs at a level where we can offer reasonable support to each individual company. Since we prefer to work with larger hosting companies, and we focus on countries where we have a larger player base, there will not be game servers available in every country on the planet.

The list of RSPs which will run BF3 game servers at launch is not ready yet. Once it is, we will publilalalala widely.

Server administrators
While the RSPs run the physical machines, most if not all will be paid for and administered by the players themselves – individuals, groups of friends, or clans.
A server administrator control some aspects of the play experience – which maps are being played, which people are allowed onto the server, and can also affect the play style through various direct and indirect controls. Generally speaking, servers that are administered by reasonable admins attract players, while servers which have arbitrary rules imposed see less traffic.

Ranked vs Unranked
One of the biggest choices which a server administrator has to make is, whether to run the server in Ranked or Unranked mode.

In Ranked mode, player progression is tracked on EAs master servers. Weapons are unlocked by playing the game. Player progression is also visible on Battlelog. The server administrators will have to abide by the Battlefield Rules of Engagement.

In Unranked mode, player progression is not tracked on the master servers. Server administrators have free reign on such servers – no Battlefield Rules of Engagement to heed. They can control in detail which weapons are available to the players, etc. This mode is suited to playing clan matches, tournaments, or to those players who just like the fairness of everyone having the same range of weapons available to them.

PunkBuster
BF3 will use PunkBuster as its anti-cheat system. Game servers that run in ranked mode are required to have PunkBuster active.
There have been problems with the PunkBuster screenshot mechanism under DirectX 10/11 in the past. However, we have collaborated with EvenBalance to make screenshots function reliably with DX10/DX11 in BF3.

Third party anti-cheat organizations
There are several community initiatives against cheating. These initiatives are usually volunteer organizations that maintain their own databases with cheaters. They do both manual work - reviewing screenshots, game recordings, and other cheating evidence – and also implement automated systems.
It is up to each individual server administrator whether to join with one or more of these organizations.
While not officially partnering with these organizations, we try to ensure that BF3 works well with their systems in time for the launch.
The biggest three organizations that support Battlefield games are PBBans (PBBans | Always Quality over Quantity), GGC-Stream (GGC-Stream / News) and PunksBusted (PunksBusted.com Sponsored by Ventrilo). There are also several smaller organizations around.

Server administration interface
BF3 will support a Remote Administration interface similar to that of BFBC2. The basic protocol will be the same, but commands differing a bit.
There is a plethora of tools available that can talk to the remote admin interface. We are in contact with several of the developers who created tools for BFBC2, and will aid them in adding support for BF3. If you have developed a BFBC2 remote admin tool which is popular (used on >100 game servers), send me a PM.

The protocol itself is still under constant revision. Expect the protocol to be published by the time that the retail game is released.

Unquote.

Seems to be very close to how bf2 was run (I've never tried bfbc2 so I cannot say if it's similar to that, too).

Even if i render something in 3dsm i dont use more than 4 GB so you guys should chilllllllllll out.

If your cpu is good, you wont need that much RAM.

I cant be sure but i dont think bf3 will be 2x heavier for your hw than bc2. Its the same engine just a little bit (maybe more than a little, but not so much.) nicer and bigger.

Dont be fooled by "the NEW forstbite 2.0 engine" because irl its only a upgrade from bc2's frostbite 1.5.
Its just a sales pitch.

The thing is I'm planning to run a RAM Drive on my PC, and 8GB won't be overkill. I could put up to 32GB (4 x 8GB dimm), but that will be approximately $1K. And for 16GB it's around $100. A fair price to me.

So, a 10GB RAM drive and the remaining 6GB available for windows and apps. I will try to get all temporary files to the RAM drive, therefore they will be automatically erased on shutdowns or restarts. This way, I will reduce the writes on the SSD by a lot, and maybe extend its life a few extra years.

All issues you wouldn't have with a normal HDD.
Is that extra 10-25MB/s worth it?

when i double-click on a mp3, it starts playing within 10ms (iTunes opens and the song plays). Yes it's worth every penny. I can't say the same for videos, cause they're on my HDDs for a simple reason... they take too much room.  Nevermind your extra 10-25MB/s or 80-200Mbps, I'm talking about 5 times faster here. On windows rating, it hits a 7.8/7.9 compared to a sataIII raid 0 with two HDDs rated at 5.9. Also, we know that this isn't a linear curb, and performances are not only 25% greater. However, to get the correct numbers a benchmark is needed.

And, we can compare heat issues which SSD are not having at all with their mW consumption.  And we don't have that annoying noise when the drive is fragmented and it's reading a huge file over the whole drive.

Normal hard drives have also other issues... mechanical ones! Apart from fans and dvd drives, HDD are the prehistoric parts remaining in a PC. They're going to live another 10 years before being extinguished from the market.

It will, cause you'll have 64 slots servers. Therefore, more action in your screen. Just hope maps will be 2X the size of BC2 maps.

BTW, how do we knife in BC2? I'm so lame! See, I need the best machine possible for BF3 to lower my handicaps.

Guys check this out. Depending where you buy the game from you get a little different deal.

From E.A you get a few weapons right off the bat for pre order. But I'm pretty sure there all unlock able. Please look and see what you think.

And from Best buy you get the spec-act kit for free. Karkand comes with both. But the E.a you get some play for free shit.

Alright I just bought bf3 from bestbuy.com I had 25 bucks in reward zone points so I used them to get the game for 37 us dollars. Shipped to my house the 25th. I get the spec act kit for free along with the same stuff origins is offering except the p4free crap. So that makes it a savings of about 25-35 us dollars since I wont have to pay for the spec act kit. Free shipping also. Was going to wait to get it when it was cheaper but my points would have expired by then. So I will see you guys on the battle field of bf3 soon.

I was at gamestop at midnight and waited through the line to get my copy.

After downloading the game (some information is on the discs but the majority must still be downloaded) I got an installation error of "Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (1603)."

After much research and posting on EA forum (which has still not been responded to) I figured out that it was not a game install error at all but my own installation of W7.  The update KB2538243 must be installed.  This is part of SP1 which my system had not picked up as needing.  Windows update reported as "fully updated".  After spending hours troubleshooting this issue and finding the fix for it, I attempted to install the game again.

This time I get an error message (after another full download (about four hours)) "DirectX Setup error the Cabinet file (cab.) is ot signed" and the installation terminates.

I downloaded and installed DirectX from microsoft's website.  I am now attempting to reinstall and am sitting here downloading at a speed of 7.8kb/s because of all the traffic on EA servers.

It doesn't seem that I will be getting the "First Day" award patch for playing today.

I really can't wait to see the next error message after this install finally completes in an estimated 12 hours...

Remind me again that this shit is supposed to be fun!!! >:( >:( >:(

Forget it!  Install cancelled, estimated time left 25 hours to download less than 2gb.  Good luck to anybody that is picking up the game after work today.
