Title: BF4... PC requirements?
Post by: BornToDie on June 12, 2013, 02:17:43 PM
I checked for to play BF4 with my computer:

Will be slow and lagging hard cos:

I need to replace the CPU by a I7 or AMD 8 core 8385...

I need to replace too my video card to a GTX690 or more high...

I need to replace too my ram : from 8 MB. updated to 16 MB.

= more than 1.000 euros or more than $1,250 for to play a game who's cost only 60,00 euros or $60,00.

Ins't expensive for you all? :(

Egidio.

Where did you get that from?

For 60+ FPS HD you might need those specs, but an i5 and 8GB of ram + GTX660, you'll be fine.

A GTX690 is overkill. That's a dual GPU GTX680. A single 680 is too powerfull for BF3, unless you play in a higher resolution than HD. Imagine what you get with an 690. I think the card is $700-900US. Way over budget, unless you like to waste money.

You already have a killer graphic card (Dual GPU), so don't worry about that one. For ram, you have enough if you don't have plenty stuff running in background. Upgrading to 16GB will cost about $100, but if you do, use 1600Mhz and up speed with the smallest latency. Check your mobo's compatibility.

The real bottleneck is your HDs. Get a SSD at once. Grab a 240-256GB minimum, cause 128GB fills up pretty fast. The CPU might be one also on the medium-long terme. I suggest flashing your mobo with the 1602 or higher firmware, then get an AMD FX-8350 which will be compatible with the new bios version.

With that you'll be able to play BF4 at 1080p at 60+ FPS.

None of the upgrades are urgent, except for the SSD. We're in 2013, every PC needs an SSD. I suggest doing upgrades progressively in this order (don't buy everything in one batch)

Buy one at a time, and test your system.
1. SSD
2. CPU
3. RAM
4. GPU

On my side, I was able to get 60+ FPS at 1080p on BF3 with

CPU: AMD 1090T
GPU: ATI 5970 (Old Dual GPU, but still a beast)
RAM: G.Skill 16GB @ 1600Mhz (useless cause the memory usage never went over 8GB, but I bought the kit (4 x 4GB) in special)
Mobo: a cheap model I can't remember
HD: OCZ SSD 120GB

My rig is two years old, but it still works perfectly with any game.

Like Frog says, no need for a i7 or 16GB of ram.

I also upgraded my graphics card to be able to play bf4 smoothly,
I bought a Gigabyte GTX760. You shouldnt buy the GTX6xx series anymore.
They are deprecated and the GTX760 is the best bang for your $ atm.

Thats all, still have my i5 2500K with 8GB RAM, plenty to go around :)

Having a SSD will only make the game load faster imho

A SSD isn't essential for gaming, but it's essential for many reasons. Games and apps loading faster, faster file sharing and etc. To be part of the 2010+ generation... you need a SSD.

For the moment, I think the samsung pro series is the best of its class.
